Gordian III, as Caesar, 238. Denarius (Silver, 21 mm, 2.62 g, 7 h), Rome, circa April-June 238. M ANT GORDIANVS CAES Bare-headed and draped bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. PIETAS AVGG Lituus, knife, patera, jug, simpulum and aspergillum. BMC -, cf. 62 (no patera). Cohen -, cf. 182 (no patera). Michaux 254 (same dies). RIC -, cf. 1 (no patera). A rare variety. Small flan fault on the obverse and the reverse a bit weak, otherwise, very fine.

From the Joseph Markowitz Collection (1897-1981), brought to Israel in 1949 and kept in the family ever since.
